Pediatric Therapy Questions
your questions answered
How is DIR/Floortime different from traditional speech therapy?
Speech therapy focuses on specific communication skills like language, speech sounds, and social communication.
DIR/Floortime focuses on developmental foundations like connection, regulation, and engagement, so communication can grow naturally through relationships and play. Instead of working on skills in isolation, it uses play and shared interactions to help communication and social development naturally emerge, with strong caregiver involvement through coaching. Insurance typically requires a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) for DIR/Floortime services to be eligible for coverage.
Does insurance cover private speech therapy services?
We are in network with the following insurers:
Aetna NJ for speech and DIR/floortime
NJ Family Care for DIR/Floortime - Coming Summer 2026!
COlorado Health First - MEdicaid for speech (CO residents)
Colorado Access CHP + for speech(CO residents)
Step Up For Students for speech- Unique Abilities (FL residents)
How does parent coaching fit into therapy?
Parent coaching is a core part of our approach and is built into both DIR/Floortime and speech therapy services. Instead of therapy happening only during sessions, we work closely with caregivers to support strategies that can be used throughout daily routines—mealtime, play, dressing, and community activities. This helps skills generalize beyond therapy and creates more opportunities for connection, communication, and regulation in everyday life.
If your child receives DIR/Floortime, you will receive at least one hour of coaching per week.

Do you provide in-person services for speech therapy?
We provide in-home services in Burlington County and Camden County, NJ as well as Denver, CO. Clients in all other locations can receive speech therapy sessions via Zoom.
Does my child need a diagnosis of autism to receive therapy?
No, your child does not need a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to receive speech therapy services. Speech-language therapy can be provided based on communication needs alone, including challenges with language, speech sounds, social communication, or overall developmental communication skills.
However, for DIR/Floortime services to be covered by insurance, a diagnosis of ASD is typically required. If a child does not have an ASD diagnosis, families may still access DIR/Floortime services through private pay.
When can we start therapy?
Start times depend on current scheduling availability and insurance approval when applicable. In general, most families are able to begin services within about 4–8 weeks.
