DIR/Floortime
Seen, supported, and connected - just as they are
Follow their lead, find their heart
Follow their lead, find their heart
DIR/Floortime is a relationship-based approach that supports development through connection, play, and meaningful interactions. DIR stands for:
Developmental - meeting your child where they are and supporting the next steps in development
Individual Differences - honoring how your child processes the world (sensory, motor, emotional)
Relationship-Based - because connection is what drives growth
Instead of focusing on specific skills, we focus on your child as a whole - how they feel, think, communicate, and relate to others. We follow your child’s lead, join them in their world, and gently expand their ability to:
communicate their wants, needs, and ideas
stay engaged and connected with others
regulate their emotions and body
think flexibly and solve problems
Through playful, supportive interactions, your child builds the foundation for communication, learning, and relationships.
DIR/Floortime is designed for children ages 18 months to 21 years and their caregivers.
It is particularly supportive for autistic children and those with diverse communication, regulation, and developmental profiles.
Through a connection-based, child-led approach, we support each child in feeling understood, engaged, and confident as they grow and communicate in their own unique way.
DIR/Floortime is most effective when it becomes part of your child’s everyday life - not just something that happens during a weekly session.
Children benefit from frequent, meaningful interactions throughout the day, often ranging from 8–30 hours per week of playful, connected engagement across routines like playtime, meals, and daily activities.
Sessions are play-based and child-led. We follow your child’s interests, join them in their world, and create opportunities for back-and-forth interaction, shared attention, and communication. Through these moments, we support your child in building connection, regulation, and expanding their ability to communicate and engage.
A key part of this approach is parent coaching. Rather than working only with your child, we work with you—so you feel confident supporting your child throughout your day.
Together, we will:
learn how to follow your child’s lead and expand their play
support regulation and emotional connection
recognize and respond to your child’s communication
turn everyday moments into opportunities for growth
Despite the distance, online therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy. There are significant perks to the online system as well – especially for children, the familiarity of having sessions in the comforting environment of their own home can make the therapy process easier to manage. The same evidence-based strategies used in face-to-face therapy are simply transferred to an online medium, all performed by a live speech pathologist through videoconferencing. The only real difference is the mode of delivery!
There are many benefits of choosing online therapy. From their home environment, children can skip the often-overwhelming experience of adapting to a new space, meaning they can get comfortable with the therapy process sooner. Having parents also present massively eases the transition period, making sure their child is relaxed at all times. Remote sessions are also entirely flexible to your at-home routine – plus, you get to skip the wasted hours spent traveling to and from clinics or sitting around in the waiting room.
Eliminating the divide between home and therapy creates a system of learning that can very quickly transfer into daily life. Using techniques and activities that use a child’s familiar environment allows your speech therapist to demonstrate natural opportunities to teach language. Using items around the house for therapy activities, for example, can increase carryover of the skills outside of sessions. Online therapy makes it incredibly easy to build speech development into your everyday routine around the house, even when a speech language therapist isn’t there to observe.
